Reimagining sandwich crackers in sustainable packaging.
Scope: Packaging Design
Industry: Food and Beverage
-
Lance sandwich crackers are loved as a portable snack, but the existing package design lacks sustainability: each pack is individually wrapped in thin, plastic film, leaving excess waste that isn’t biodegradable and is hard to recycle.
Develop a new packaging system that solves this problem.
-
As the Official Snack of the Little League, Lance is a favorite of sports fans and players alike. This redesign is meant to fit anywhere, from the field to the kitchen pantry.
-
Instead of loose packs wrapped in plastic, stored together in a bulky box, my design links each pack together. By replacing the plastic film with recycled paper boxes, the design conserves materials while eliminating plastic altogether.
-
Lance Sandwich Crackers have 2 flavor variables: cracker and filling. The label needs a system that communicates which cracker and which filling are in the pack. At the top of the hierarchy is a large, custom-typeset logo for the cracker, followed by a subheading that denotes the filling.
-
Each pack is made of biodegradable cardboard and is linked together at the dieline. With each pack connected, this eliminates the need for an outer box, conserving materials.
To start snacking, simply tear off a pack! When you're done, the packages fold and link together for easy pantry storage.
-
Wondering why some packs are upside-down? There are a few reasons! First, the dieline needs to be one whole panel in order for all 4 packs to connect. In order to fit all panels without them running in to each other, the orientations need to alternate.
Second, alternating directions means that the packaging works from any angle. You can toss them in the pantry, on the field, or at the bottom of a schoolbag. You'll still know exactly what you're snacking on!
